It's interesting to think about how many large superstores will feel the effects of this. If a superstore can't even manage to stay open in NYC, it's hard to image how superstores in less populated areas will be able to stay open.
As the digital realm is taking over. More and more people are looking for convenience and it seems that going to a physical bookstore just isn't convenient anymore. New technologies need to be integrated into these "traditional" stores. Individuals are no longer going to go to a bookstore just to buy a hardcover book. The store needs to give them additional incentive to come to their store. In response to the above comment. This store was in New York City- the cost of managing a store is higher. Also I believe that individuals in NYC are constantly bombarded by new technologies and innovative marketing campaigns. Consequently, I believe that stores in less populated areas where resident's feel less social pressure to adapt to these technologies will continue to stay open with ease. The cost to keep a store open will be less in areas with a lower population as well.
I don’t feel that physical stores as a whole will be going away anytime soon, but I do feel that superstores like this Barnes & Noble need to be reevaluated. It is just far too expensive to keep so many different items in one oversized location. Barnes & Nobel needs to come up with a more functional business model.
Barnes and Noble has been one of the most popular book selling stores. They have been supplying books and music for consumers. However, with today's media and tech changes consumers are changing their habits to purchasing online/digital readers. Barnes and Noble needs to come up with more marketing ideas to change consumers minds.
